HALLOWED

Happy Halloween!

This witch was drawn on black railroad paper, with a "puffy" ink pen, straight ahead with no pre-drawing.

BILLY

A warm up to Halloween.

MISS NOIR

A simple line drawing this week.

FLY GIRL

The initial pencil sketch of this, {drawn while waiting for stuff to load}, was also treated in photo shop. This more realistic style is an attempt to step out of my "comfort zone" of cartoony drawings.

STRIPES

This red-headed gentleman represents four months of FACE THE WEEK.

The concept is to post one new "face" every week for a complete year. So, we are a third of the way there!

KID CRANIUM

As I'm posting this, there is a Calexico song playing {Tres Avisos} that accents this undead sheriff perfectly.

COOKIE

This week, another alien is featured.

There will be more, as they seem to have over taken my sketch books these days.

FACTORY GIRL?

This week's face is from the sketchbook, possibly influenced by Sienna Miller in the very horrible FACTORY GIRL.

...or possibly not!

GHOSTLY ALIEN

FACE THE WEEK is now three months old! Here is yet another alien to help us celebrate.

CAMEO

This is a style that I'm contemplating using for my next short film..

UNEARTHED

This week yet another creature is the feature.

PATTY

I think everyone knew a girl like this in grade seven.

RED ALIEN

This week's entry is a few days late, thanks to major bumbling from my service provider, but all is well now.

So this is another in what will be many "aliens" posted here, and I hope you like it.

GUEST FACERS!!

Every once and a while, I'd like to showcase a FACE THE WEEK guest artist.

This week's guest is GERRY FOURNIER.

Gerry has the uncanny ability to caricature people with the least amount of lines. His drawings are truly wonderful, witty, and spot on. He always manages to capture whom ever it is he is drawing.

This however, is a fabulous collage he created a few years back, of yours truly.

I think it speaks for itself!

If you would like to contribute a j-peg of a head and shoulders FACE THE WEEK type of illustration, feel free to send it to me at willy.ashworth@sympatico.ca.

BORIS' NEW TIE

There is not too much to say about this week's FACE THE WEEK. Unlike previous posts, this one is straight from the sketch book. The goal here was to try and create a face that looked like it came from another era, possibly the 1940's. This guy looks like he might be from Europe somewhere.

I think the paisley tie does a lot to set the time period.

SPECS

I see this type of guy around town a lot.

He seems to travel with others who look a lot like him, and generally wears a t-shirt enblazened with either a superhero, a video-game character, or a classic animation icon. Baggy cargo cut-offs, and shiny trainers complete the look. He always seems to be carrying a slurpy, or an expensive designer coffee, and is most often seen behind a lap-top, were ever he might be found.

He seems harmless enough, but I see him everywhere, travelling in groups of 4 or 5, almost always without female company.

THE SUPERVISOR

This one is based on former co-worker.

ART COFFEE

I saw this guy in a coffee shop, while on a sketching expedition. Everything about him was red or brown or beige, including his personal colouring and all his clothing. It was as if he had been art directed!

PEACE GRANNY

I saw this colourful senior in Kensington Market, complete with peace sign. I drew her from memory later that night.

LOCAL BUSKER

This harmonica playing gentleman busker was sketched in Bloor West Village, with some photoshop enhancements added later.

I've decided that I like these illustrations without the header and the numbering. It seems cleaner now, and showcases the illustration in a better fashion.

JUNIOR

This will be a weekly posting, featuring a new "FACE THE WEEK" face every Sunday evening.

The goal is to post a new design every week, where I will try to stretch my design abilities and have a little fun.

Inspired by a cool little kid I saw on the subway.

Enjoy!
